I've had this book for years and use it often. I have given several copies to other people that I know will benefit from it!!!
This is a book I have been using for 3 years now, and it's something I can honestly say there was a time in my life I would have never, and I mean never seen myself purchasing or using. I worked in a very traditional western medicine setting for a number of years before I began my current life as a fabulous stay at home mom. And I really thought anything related to acupressure or acupuncture was a load of manure. Not too long before I purchased this book, I became familiar with some of the US Military's use for acupuncture in the treatment of pain as a means to reduce opioid addiction in wounded soldiers, and there was enough credibility behind the information that was coming out that I thought...well, ok, maybe I can be open minded about this. And then I was put on a medication that damaged my liver, and when that happens, one of the first thing that happens is you get pulled off of any and every medication possible, especially ones that metabolize through the liver.I have seasonal allergies that can best be described by the words of an allergist I saw many years ago when he walked into his office to give me test results: "Do you want some coffee? It's pretty much the only thing you're not allergic to around here." My allergies kind of have a life of their own. So being pulled off of my allergy medications was tough. So I started acupuncture because I was totally desperate and figured I had absolutely nothing to loose by trying it, and we bought this also for home use, because they are related concepts. I find that the book is well laid out, easy to understand, the points are clearly marked and demonstrated, and the kindle version is well-linked.I have used this for headaches, stress, anxiety, congestion, and allergies on myself, my husband, and my daughter. My husband pretty much says the only ones that he finds helpful are the anxiety pressure point, and sometimes the congestion ones. The dietary changes I had to make as part of the healing process for my liver alone made huge improvements on my allergies, but I still have some problems. Up until this spring, I was able to do acupuncture. Now I don't have any babysitting coverage for our son, so I've been using straight acupressure, and I can tell you it helps some, but isn't anywhere near as effective as the acupuncture was for me on the allergies. For me, it works best on congestion, especially in my ears, the anxiety points, headaches, and some of the points for coughing surprisingly enough have been helpful. My daughter pretty much says it helps a little, but not as much as allergy meds for her. Since it's not universally effective in our house, and it doesn't work for me as well as acupuncture, it's a four star product. But I have found it helpful at times and I do think it's a well done book, and it's something that may benefit you also.
I have owned this book for years, and many of the chapters have helped tremendously with whatever I was facing at the time. After being sick and almost unable to get out of bed for the last few days, I remembered this book and how I was immediately able to relieve nausea one time. I crawled around in my closet, found this book, and spent about 30 minutes working the points in the Colds and Flu chapter and the Immune System Boosting chapter. After, I was able to get up and move around the rest of the evening without getting dizzy and having to lie down. My aches were also greatly reduced. I felt even better today. I was able to run some errands and have some real food. These points work, and they can work really fast. I will keep massaging and holding the points a few times each day until I am back to 100% which shouldn't be long based on recent changes. I wish I would have started it as soon as I began to feel achy. Even better, I will massage these points during cold season before I even begin to feel any symptoms. Lesson learned. May God bless Michael Reed Gach for devoting his life to this subject and for sharing his wisdom in Potent Points.
Love this book. It is written and designed to be easy to use, without having to memorize pressure points. Also the way the exercises are designed means you don't have to worry about being on the exact spot; the placement of hands will address the area you need. Wonderful to have the photographs too. Thank you.
I've needed this book for a long time, due to extensive injuries in the '70s. My osteopath taught me a lot of self-care, which I forgot as my condition improved to negligible aches and pains. As I approach 70, it is a valuable resource for regaining and maintaining optimal health. It isn't just for injured or aging folks, either, but a good resource for persons of any age whatever.
As a professional massage therapist I've found this book to be an invaluable quick resource for lay people & my personal use as well. My original copy of this book is well over 20 years old, and I still refer back to it as a great reference for pain management for myself & my clients, plus I've bought additional copies & given them out as gifts.The book has a very useful index for each segment of the body, that is simple to use for everyone. If your intention is to gain relief from physical aches & pains of all types, from headaches & migraines, digestive issues, low back pain & sciatica, without the use of medications, this book on acupressure will be very useful for you. Of course if your health problems are ongoing, please don't forget that no one book should replace seeing your doctor for an evaluation & diagnosis, or making an appointment with your massage therapist!Michael Reed Gach has written several other wonderful books, which I also have in my collection, and recommend highly. You can also find excellent guidance from this author via his website & facebook pages too.
This takes a bit to get into and understand, but there are many valid points brought up throughout that are very beneficial. This basically teaches you how to provide your own acupressure therapy. It could be applied by another, but the overall purpose is to teach you how to take care of your own needs, particularly when pain is involved. It is a great concept and can likely provide relief, but it would be essential to read the entire book to understand how and why this practice works. So if your looking for a get fixed quick process, this probably isn't it. Be prepared to read a good amount of text if you intend to do the acupressure properly. Clearly the author is experienced and knows exactly what he is talking about, but some of the medical text can be somewhat annoying, and the author likes to talk about the muscles in medical terms, which would mean looking up these translations in the glossary frequently. This is not fiction, so be prepared to learn.
